Dr. Martin Keenan
General Practitioner / Founder of Oranmore Family Doctors
Dr. Martin Keenan is an experienced General Practitioner and the founder of Oranmore Family Doctors. He graduated with first-class honours in Psychology and Mathematics before completing his honours degree in Medicine at the University of Limerick. His early medical training took him to Galway for internship, followed by further clinical experience in Psychiatry, Neurology, and General Medicine. He later joined the Western GP Scheme, where he completed his specialist training in General Practice.
Since qualifying, Dr. Martin has worked across a variety of rural and urban practices, giving him a broad understanding of the diverse needs of patients and communities. He is committed to providing compassionate, patient-centred care and creating a welcoming environment for individuals and families from all backgrounds.
Originally from Ballinderreen, Co. Galway, Dr. Martin has a strong interest in languages and cultural connection. He speaks Irish and Portuguese fluently and also has working knowledge of French, German, and basic Russian — skills that help him communicate more comfortably with patients from different parts of the world.
Outside of medicine, Dr. Martin is married to Emer and is a proud father to twins, Vivienne and Ronan.

Practice Manager
Emer, our esteemed Practice Manager and Founder, hails from Inverin in Connemara. She is central to our commitment to delivering high-quality healthcare. Emer brings a profound passion for healthcare to her role at Oranmore Family Doctors. With over 13 years of experience in the medical sector, spanning both private hospital settings and general practice, she has refined her skills to uphold the highest standards of patient care.
Emer has also played a pivotal role in designing the practice, including a child-friendly nurses’ room and waiting area, ensuring a welcoming environment for all patients. Emer is a devoted mother to twins, Vivienne and Ronan, and is married to Dr. Martin Keenan, who is also a founder of Oranmore Family Doctors. Proud of her Irish heritage, Emer is a fluent native Irish speaker. Driven by a genuine concern for patient well-being, Emer advocates for a patient-centric approach. She recognizes the uniqueness of each individual, ensuring that every patient receives personalized attention and care.
Sandi Wallace
Medical Secretary / Office Manager
Sandi serves as our dedicated full-time Medical Secretary and Office Manager. A retired certified nurse, Sandi brings a wealth of experience and expertise to our practice. Born and raised in Germany, she has lived across the U.S.A., enriching her professional journey with diverse experiences.
Sandi excels in the dynamic environment of a medical practice, consistently maintaining the highest standards of efficiency and care. With extensive experience in office management and HR, she ensures our practice operates smoothly and effectively.
Sandi first visited Ireland on holiday with her daughter and fell in love with our beautiful Emerald Isle. She decided to make Oranmore her home nearly 20 years ago and has since become an integral part of the Oranmore community.

Daireen Bourke
Practice Nurse
Daireen is a dedicated practice nurse with over 14 years of experience. She graduated from University College Dublin in 2011 and has worked in various settings, including St George’s Hospital in London and the Royal Ward in Abu Dhabi. Daireen has specialized in areas such as neurology, dermatology, and wound care. During the COVID-19 pandemic, she enhanced her skills in managing acutely unwell patients.
Originally from Donegal, Daireen is now settled in Oranmore with her husband and two young children, Fiadh and Oisin.
Daireen joined Oranmore Family Doctors in April 2025 and is excited to bring her wealth of nursing experience to her new role as a Practice Nurse and is highly motivated to continue learning and growing in her profession.

Louise O’Rourke
Medical Secretary
Louise is a dedicated Medical Secretary at Oranmore Family Doctors, where she joined in March 2025. She excels in her role as a Reception and Administration Assistant, with a strong focus on patient care and administrative efficiency. Louise’s key responsibilities include:
– Managing front desk and reception administration
– Greeting and checking in patients
– Handling all relevant correspondence
– Updating patient files
– Managing phone calls and email queries
– Utilizing her knowledge of the Medical Card System
Interests and Achievements: Outside of her professional responsibilities, Louise, a local from Oranmore, is passionate about marathons, running, and hiking. She was involved with Galway Mountain Rescue, where she has received training in Remote Emergency Care (REM) and first response/defibrillator use. In January 2022, Louise was honored with the “Above & Beyond Award” at work. She has also completed courses in Autism Awareness and Child Welfare Protection.
